Water-vapor-absorption line measurements near 940 nm using a Raman-shifted dye laser system

Abstract

Because the water vapor absorption band near 940 nm contains strong lines and lies in a relatively empty portion of the atmospheric spectrum, it is well suited for lidar remote sensing in the stratosphere and polar regions where H2O is much less abundant than in the tropical or midlatitude troposphere. The purpose of the present study is to obtain accurate water vapor line parameters in the range of 961–982 nm.
