Abstract

In the research into laser interaction with matter and in laser fusion, the stable high power laser system with widely variable pulse widths (ps-ns) is traditionally made by different laser oscillators with different operating schemes. We present a compact high power Nd:YAG laser system which consists of an actively-passively colliding pulse mode-locked oscillator, a single pulse selector (a Pockels cell shutter), and a Nd:YAG amplifier. The combination of the amplifier with the single pulse selector constructs a four-pass laser amplifier. The oscillator generates pulse trains with amplitude fluctuation of less than ±4% and variable pulse widths from 20 ps to 2.5 ns.
