Abstract

Instabilities affecting the propagation of laser beams through a turbulent absorbing medium are studied in the Rytov approximation linearized around an unperturbed uniform beam (plane wave). The governing equations are the paraxial wave equation for the optical field and the heat transport equation for the medium.
