Abstract

Ultrashort pulses, especially for high power, high repetition, and tunable dye lasers, are widely used to investigate transient phenomena in physics, chemistry, biology, and electronics. We report here, we believe for the first time, that a 30-ps dye laser pulse was achieved pumped by a 25-ns copper bromide laser pulse with a repetition rate of 10 kHz by means of a simple short cavity laser. The pulses which were nearly bandwidth-limited can be tuned and amplified outside the cavity conveniently.
