Abstract

The development of high power diffraction-limited spectrally coherent diode laser sources is critical for space communication as well as for many applications in nonlinear optics and signal processing. Diode laser arrays with output powers over 1 W are now available but typically emit in multiple longitudinal modes with wide incoherent far fields. Injection locking is a powerful technique for achieving spatial and spectral mode control in high power laser arrays.1–3 Heterodyne communication has been demonstrated using a high power injection-locked array.4
