Abstract
Research in the area of diode pumped solid state lasers has borne fruit with the development of many excellent laser systems with extremely compact packaging and electrical efficiencies of up to 20%. Operating features include frequency doubling, single frequency output, and high amplitude and frequency stability. These systems are generally longitudinally (end) pumped by a single laser diode or phased array. Average power output from these lasers is at present <1 W.
