Abstract
Mercury halide lasers are capable of yielding high power pulses in the visible waveband at reasonable efficiencies and with some degree of tunability. This paper presents the results of a study on the emission spectra of HgBr and HgCl, with particular emphasis on their tuning characteristics and energy extraction efficiency when operating in a narrow bandwidth configuration. These parameters are important to quantify for the practical application of HgX lasers.
