Optical directional coupler controlled by evanescent wave interaction

Abstract

The theory presented describes the evolution of mode amplitudes in an optical directional coupler with evanescent wave gain and constructed from single-mode rectangular dielectric waveguides. A sketch of the device is given as Fig. 1.
