Abstract
Self-focusing in air has not been studied in detail partly because of the weakness of the effect and partly because of the difficulty in avoiding competition of nonlinear processes which complicate interpretation of the results. We have observed self-focusing of a single-frequency diffraction-limited 308-nm beam in propagation through a multipass cell filled with pressurized air. The observations were made with negligible interference from competing nonlinear processes.
