Abstract

The intensity-dependent nonlinear change in the refractive index of multiquantum wells (MQWs) has been recognized as an attractive means for all-optical switching and optical signal processing. We report nonlinear coupling characteristics of the first AIGaAs vertical coupler using a GaAs/AIGaAs MQW as the coupling medium.
