Abstract

Advances in laser and optical component technologies have made it possible to consider using tens, hundreds, and theoretically thousands of different wavelengths in optical fiber communications systems. This, together with the use of both passive and active optical interconnection networks, is a stimulating new thought on the applications of the multiwavelength photonic networks to solve communications problems.
