Abstract

The development of solar-pumped cw high- power lasers has been pursued at NASA as part of the project for the laser-power transmission to various power users in space. Since chromium-arid neodymium-codoped gadolinium scandium gallium garnet (Cr:Nd:GSGG) has been proved an efficient laser material in pulsed operation and its broad absorption bands match well with the solar spectrum, its cw laser operation was tested with a solar-simulator as a pumping source in this research.
