Abstract

In many classes of coherent optical processor that employ feedback or iterative optical algorithms, such as associative memories, a thresholding system is required that preserves the spatial distribution of the input Image information. Moreover, in certain architectures, an additional requirement is that the processed information be retroreturned for subsequent iterations. In principle, an array of thresholding, or self-pumped, phase conjugate mirrors (i.e., without transverse beam overlap), can satisfy these needs.
