Abstract

Over the years several techniques have been devised for phase modulating the light in an optical fiber,1,2 We present and demonstrate a novel method in which the magnetic force on a current carrying fiber is used for phase modulation. This technique is as simple as the PZT phase modulator but offers more bandwidth and better frequency response.
