Abstract
We describe a novel nonlinear optical device for passive mode locking. It consists of a nonlinear crystal for second harmonic generation (SHG) and a dichroic mirror M2 shown in Fig. 1. The device features an intensity-dependent reflection coefficient similar to the combination of a saturable absorber and a mirror as used in the ordinary technique of mode locking.1
