Abstract

A magnetically switched pulse compression circuit1 was used to generate optical pulse widths from a XeCl laser of 135 ns. The laser discharge dimensions were 1.25 × 1.25 × 80 cm3 and produced 145 mJ/pulse at repetition rates up to 50 Hz. The laser was preionized by UV spark pins located both upstream and downstream of the discharge region.
