Abstract

When 1asers are modulated at the inter-cavity modal spacing frequency (Δω), the coupling of modes causes a very efficient modulation of the optical radiation which leads to a large optical modu1ation depth and consequently short pulse generation. Previous efforts on mode-locking of laser diodes approached frequencies slighly below 20GHz.
