Experimental observations of subpicosecond dynamics in GaAIAs laser diodes

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

We describe experiments which reveal for the first time subpicosecond dynamics in GaAIAs laser diode devices. To carry out these experiments, we have used pulses from a synchronously pumped dye laser tunable from 780 to 850 nm. Fiber compression was employed to reduce the pulse widths to 0.4 ps. The tunability allows us to probe the GaAIAs laser amplifiers near their operating wavelengths.
