Abstract

Alexandrite rods, 6-mm diameter by 80 mm long, have been grown in our laboratory since 1982. The total wave front distortion was ~2–3 fringes on a Twyman-Green interferometer (632.8 nm) and the insertion losses are as low as 0.009 cm−1 at 750 nm.
