Line broadening of rapidly modulated semiconductor lasers: Analysis and system consequences

Abstract

Modulation of a semiconductor laser is known to broaden the linewidth of each laser mode. In extreme cases, such as gain switched lasers or lasers showing self-pulsation, a distinctive distortion of the spectrum is seen.
