Abstract
The nonlinear optical properties of liquid crystal have been the subject of much study. Recently, we dissolved a small amount of rhodamine 6G dye in nematic 5CB liquid crystal and found that in addition to the tremendous enhancement of the degenerate four-wave mixing (FWM) signal intensity, the signal intensity also shows a strong anisotropic property. To clarify the mechanism of this anisotropic property, we have performed several experiments, where both the polarization of the incident beams and the orientation of the thermal grating fringe can be changed with respect to the liquid crystal director II.
