Abstract

Optical disk file memories for real-time data recording have been actively developed in several places. We have developed a large capacity, highly reliable optical disk memory which makes coded data storage for computer application possible. Storage capacity of the disk is 2.6 Gbytes, maximum data transfer rate is 1.5 Mbytes/sec, and the average seek time is 250 msec. A bit error rate of 10−12, which is required for reliable coded data storage, has been achieved.
