Abstract

In xerographic printing applications, using laser beam exposure, the image is constructed pixel by pixel through the interaction of a scanning laser beam with a photoreceptor surface. Sequential scans overlap, allowing the complete exposure of the photoreceptor or the exposure of isolated lines and pixels in direct response to the modulated laser beam. The same technique is used to generate images in cathode ray tubes where a scanning electron-beam interacts with a phosphor screen.
