Abstract

The absorption spectra of hydrazine fuel gases [hydrazine (N2H4), monomethylhydrazine (MMH), unsymmetrical dimethylhydrazine (UDMH), ammonia (NH3), methanol (MeOH), dimethylamine (DMA), and trimethylamine (TMA)] buffered in nitrogen to 760 Torr were measured in the 9-12-μm spectral region using an FTIR spectrometer with a 0.05-Cm−1 resolution. For each gas, at least three measurements at different pressures were made, and it was noted that, with the possible exception of ammonia, the 0.05-cm−1 resolution was much smaller than the pressure-broadened spectral features of the gases. The FTIR-determined absorption coefficients were compared with values reported in the literature at CO2 laser wavelengths1,2 and found to agree within ~10 % for the values of MeOH, DMA, and TMA reported in Ref. 1 and the values for the hydrazines as reported in Ref. 2, thus confirming that the FTIR-determined values are useful for narrow laser lines.
