Solvent choices in dye lasers

Abstract

Separate oscillator and amplifier dye cells are normally used to optimize the output of dye lasers excited by high powered pump lasers. It has generally been assumed that the dye and solvent combination that produces the maximum output for the oscillator is also the optimum for use in the amplifier, although the dye concentrations used may be different. In contrast we report an example where the use of two different solvents enhanced the output of an oscillator-amplifier dye laser.
