Abstract

The increased optical quality of holographic gratings suggests their use as mirrors in high finesse interferometers. In fact the reflection coefficients of the various orders can be interpreted as reflection or transmission coefficients of an equivalent mirror. This peculiar feature makes it easy to contrive multipass grating interferometers (MGIs)1, which, depending on the selected configuration, provide transmission or reflection spectra distributions similar to Fabry-Perot, Damaschini, or Michelson interferometers.
