Abstract

Chemical oxygen-iodine lasers are powerful and efficient sources of cw laser radiation at 1.315 μm.1 But the mechanism that produces excited atomic iodine from singlet delta oxygen and molecular iodine is not completely clear. To better understand the dissociation, excitation, and quenching of iodine, a small laser of classical design has been constructed.1,2
