Abstract
Tapped optical fiber delay lines can be used to produce transversal filters by modulating the light source with the input signals and detecting the combined weighted output from the taps as shown in Fig. 1. Such filters employ incoherent light, and the modulated signals combine on a power basis.1 One of the limitations of this approach can be the insertion losses associated with the couplers used to achieve the optical taps.
