Mechanical design and performance of 74-cm aperture third harmonic crystal arrays

Abstract

Crystal arrays are precision optical components consisting of a matrix arrangement of individual KDP (KH2PO4) crystal segments mounted edge to edge and constrained between two windows in an index fluid-filled housing. The arrays, acting as a single optical element, are mounted at the output of the laser and must, as nearly as possible, simulate the performance of a nonmatrixed assembly. The design and initial performance of the two Novette second harmonic (2ω) arrays were described at last year's CLEO.1
