Semiconductor lasers can today be operated in the gigabit range by direct modulation of the drive current. At such high-bit modulation, the laser generally operates in several longitudinal modes despite longitudinal-mode oscillation in stationary injection current conditions.1 So far, the spectral behavior of lasers has been observed when modulated by rf sinusoidal current or ultrashort current pulses at regular intervals.2
