Abstract

The space charge field and refractive-index grating in a photorefractive material are derived in the limit that the pulse length of the illumination grating is short compared with the carrier drift and diffusion times. The short-pulse limit is of interest because observed cw response times are too long for many applications, and short-pulse response times are observed to be of the order of nanoseconds.1,2
