Abstract
Laser illumination of a lightguide fiber, coated with a transparent material, generates a scattering pat- tern which is characteristic of the geometry and material properties of the fiber and coating.1,2 In particular, the location of the fiber within the coating can be determined and feedback control applied during the coating application process to maintain concentricity.1,3 Light-scattering theory has been previously applied to single coatings on lightguide fibers where the fiber diameter is 110-125 μm and the coating diameter is 225-250 μm.
