Abstract
Transmission star couplers with many ports and a low excess loss are readily fabricated using techniques based on fused biconical tapered optical fiber structures.1'2 A drawback of these star couplers is a lack of uniformity in the light output. The light power output from the fiber end, whose other end is also the input, is considerably greater than the light power coupled to the other fibers.
