Abstract
Extensive research activities have been devoted to the demonstration of a few integrated optical signal processing modules, such as rf spectrum analyzer, sagnac interferometer, fiber optical multiplexers, and switching matrix in the last decade. Rapid progress has been observed in the development of waveguide optical lenses, modulators, switches, grating reflectors, and detector array. As a result, several integrated optical signal processing modules have demonstrated its feasibility. A systematic review will be provided on the current component state-of-the-art, technical limitations, and future directions. New devices such as bistable switches and high speed logic devices will also be presented.
