Abstract

A fundamental transverse mode semiconductor laser with output power higher than 10 mW/facet is required for optical writing of disk memories, such as video and audio disks. However, there have been very few reports regarding the continuous long-term operation of fundamental transverse mode laser diodes at power levels higher than 10 mW/facet, and no established laser as a light source for writing disk memories has been realized.
