Brain functional imaging and problem solving using NIRI: technological, biochemical and physiological bases

Open Access Open Access

Abstract

Significant improvements in the theory and practice of NIR imaging of brain functional activities together with a recognition of the underlying biochemistry and physiology validates the usefulness of NIR technology and emphasizes the use of optical desaturation of hemoglobin as a better indicator of neuronal function than blood volume.
