Diabetes is known to cause delayed wound healing, and extremity diabetic ulcers may end with lower limb amputations and mortalities. We examine the role of mitochondrial metabolism in the diabetic mice wound healing. On-line label-free optical images of metabolic indices (including NADH and FAD) were captured in the in vivo wounds over 5 days. The results suggest that diabetes alters mitochondrial redox state in wounds (%78 oxidized state) over time due to higher oxidative stress.
