Abstract

The world’s first mid-infrared optical coherence tomography (MIR-OCT) system is introduced. The system has been designed to characterize bioengineered tissues in terms of their structure and biochemical content. This technique utilizes a custom-built broadband MIR source (emitting over a range of 6 to 8 μm) that has been constructed using state-of-the-art quantum cascade laser technology.
