Experimental validation of a fluorescence tomography algorithm based on the equation of radiative transfer

Abstract

We have developed an optical fluorescence image reconstruction algorithm that is based on the equation of radiative transfer to model the light transport in biological tissue. A nonlinear optimization method iteratively employs the forward model for recovering the unknown fluorophore absorption distribution of a fluorescent probe. We show image reconstruction results of a three-dimensional fluorescent source distribution in a tissue-like medium.
