Applications of parallel femtosecond laser writing inside glasses and observation of the dynamics

Abstract

In this paper, we show parallel femtosecond laser writing of optical waveguides, 2D arrayed birefringence filter and diffractive optical elements inside a silica glass. In addition, we investigated the stress dynamics after parallel fs laser irradiation inside a glass, because understanding of the dynamics is important for application of parallel laser writing. We found that a complicated stress distribution appears transiently inside a glass because of the interference of multiple laser induced stress waves.
