Abstract

The photosensitivity and photosensitization of optical fibers were investigated with 157-nm radiation. A refractive index change of >10−3 was induced in standard telecommunication fiber without any enhancement technique. F2 laser exposure of hydrogen-loaded fiber was also found to lock in a strong and long-term 248-nm photosensitivity response.
