Abstract

We present a novel method to reconstruct the local grating period variation in fiber grating structures from the field reflection coefficient or the related impulse response. The method is based on the joint time-frequency signal analysis, and requires an improved time-frequency representation. We obtain the required representation by means of a suitable combination of the well-known Wigner-Ville and Spectrogram distributions. We demonstrate the applicability of the proposed method to synthesize complex fiber grating structures with interest for optical fiber communication systems, such as fiber grating superstructures and Moiré fiber gratings.
