Lasing of Yb3+ in the non-centrosymmetric host KGd(PO3)4

Abstract

Crystals of the self-doubling KGd(PO3)4 were grown with Yb-doping as high as 3.2×1020 at/cm3. They were spectroscopically characterized and laser generation in the 1 μm range was achieved with a slope efficiency exceeding 55%.
