We demonstrated high-power operation of directly diode edge-pumped, composite microchip Yb:YAG laser. The new 300µm-thick microchip consists of cylindrical Yb:YAG single crystal core with 5mm-diameter and surrounding transparent, undoped YAG ceramic pump wave-guide.
