Abstract

We considered the emission properties of TR3+-doped KPb2Cl5 crystals under different ways of impurity ion excitation: direct excitation of TR 4fn-configuration levels via ground state absorption, upconversion processes, and UV excitonic or crystalline-matrix excitation. It was shown that under UV selective direct excitation of TR ions the population of low energy levels goes via cascade schemes. Under upconversion IR continuous-wave or pulsed excitation the population of upper energy levels goes via ESA or nonradiative energy transfer, accordingly. Pumping into UV exciton band leads to fast energy transfer from exciton to low-energy excited TR levels.
