Abstract

The new designable ceramic laser material as Nd:Y<sub>3</sub>Sc<sub>x</sub>Al<sub>(5-x)</sub>O<sub>12</sub> has been developed by sintering method. The spectroscopic studies of Nd:Y<sub>3</sub>Sc<sub>x</sub>Al<sub>(5-x)</sub>O<sub>12</sub> revealed the broad emission bandwidth of 5.5 nm around 1.06 μm with x=1. Moreover, we have succeeded in laser oscillation, in which the slope efficiency of 29.6% (the total optical-optical efficiency of 24.7%) was obtained with an uncoated sample.
