Abstract

We demonstrate a laser-diode-pumped high-power 1178 nm fiber amplifier by commercial Yb-doped double cladding fiber. 536 W 1178 nm laser is achieved, which is the highest power report at this wavelength as we know. The seed is a three-tone laser consisting of 1070 nm, 1120 nm and 1178 nm. It is amplified by both Yb and Raman gain in the Yb-doped fiber. Numerical study shows that the result can be further optimized and confirms the influence of four-wave mixing effect on the output result.
