Abstract

We report a novel method for determining effective laser cross sections based on slope and threshold measurements of the laser transition. This method is demonstrated on the 1.06 µm line (R2→Y3) of Nd:YAG, where an effective emission cross section was found to be 30.6 ± 3.0 × 10−19 cm2.
