Co2+:MgAl2O4 crystal as saturable absorber in diode-pumped Q-switched Er-Ybrglass laser

Abstract

We report on diode-pumped, passively Q-switched Er-Yb:glass microlasers, using Co2+:MgAl2O4 as saturable absorber. Single-frequency operation is achieved with a pulse duration of 2.3-15 ns and a repetition rate ranging from 0.5 kHz to 12 kHz. Optical pulses with peak power exceeding 2 kW have been generated.
