We have measured the optical properties of 2 and 3 at. % neodymium- doped yttrium aluminum garnet crystals. Higher absorption coefficients at 809 nm peak were proportional to the doping level. Even in 3 at.% doping, the fluorescence lifetime was still longer than that of 1%-YVO4. With longitudinal pumping, both samples exhibited good properties in lasing.
